Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee arrived at the West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Bhabani Bhawan on Tuesday for questioning in connection with the alleged signature forgery case.
This is the third time that the senior TMC leader, who is largely seen as the second-in-command in his party, has been summoned at the probe agency’s headquarters for the case. Abhishek has so far been interrogated for more than 14 hours in two rounds, the first time for around six hours on June 11, and later for eight and a half hours on June 14.

The case pertains to mismatches in signatures of some TMC legislators on a resolution regarding appointments for important slots in the West Bengal assembly that are reserved for the Opposition bench.
The West Bengal probe agency also interrogated Beleghata TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh on Sunday in the case. During their questioning, CID officials highlighted a few crucial inconsistencies in the statements given by Abhishek Banerjee and Kunal Ghosh. The probe officials had to summon Abhishek to seek further clarifications.
Earlier, it was reported that Abhishek and Ghosh were questioned by the CID’s investigating officials separately on Sunday. Later, they were reportedly made to sit face-to-face and questioned together.
